Torroella de Montgrí, Spain 20 April - 24 November 2024
Overview
Torroella de Montgrí, Spain

Mi mamá me mima , by artist Elena Garrigolas, offers a critical exploration of motherhood and family relationships, addressing themes such as power, desire, pain and female corporeality.

Garrigolas' work dissects the maternal and family figure from a transgressive perspective, where protection and predation are combined through various artistic techniques such as oil pastel and felt. The artist presents fragmented and tense bodies, addressing themes such as trauma and desire with a raw and political perspective. In her work, we find influences from religious and mythological culture and a dialogue between the female body as a space of desire and pain.

Born in Girona in 1998, Elena Garrigolas has established herself as a multidisciplinary artist with a unique and powerful style, inspired by figures such as Goya, Paula Rego, Louise Bourgeois and the visual culture of the internet. With exhibitions in cities such as Barcelona, New York and London, her work stands out for its incisive critique of power relations and gender roles, offering a feminist and contemporary vision.

The exhibition is an opportunity to discover the work of a young artist who challenges established conventions and offers an intense and free look at the human condition and the female body.

Elena Garrigolas is the winner of the Special Mention for Young Art that the Inund'Art Festival awards annually. Her proposal has been able to be visited at the Sala d'Art Jove in Barcelona and Ca l'Anita in Roses.
